How to answer “What are your Weaknesses?” in an Interview

Interviews can be nerve-wracking to some candidates, especially when interviewers ask, “what are your weaknesses?” This question can be difficult to answer if you are not prepared and are looking to make a good impression.

Tip #1: Self-awareness. In this aspect, acknowledge that you have weaknesses; we are all humans and have flaws. The important thing is to understand how to go about those weaknesses.

Tip #2: Be honest. Interviewers ask this question to gauge your honesty and culture fit. Your answer should be bold and demonstrate how your character is an excellent fit for the job.

Tip #3:  Don’t memorize what you want to say but think of a few ideas beforehand. Be prepared, but do not memorize your lines. Plan out the ideas you want to discuss. Your answer is an opportunity to steer the conversation to your advantage.

Tip #4: Explain with an example. Provide an example or two of how your weakness can be advantageous and how you have developed the appropriate skills to work around it.

Tip #5: Be yourself, be the best version of yourself.
